February is Stout Month!

Every February, as the thick of winter kicks in, Stout Month give us something to look forward to and help get us through these cold, harsh days. Started about 30 years ago by the Mountain Sun group of breweries in Boulder, Stout Month has turned into an annual phenomenon here in Colorado, as breweries across the state celebrate with special releases of the rich, dark, and roasty variety.

Stout Month has only recently taken hold here on the Western Slope, and it's great to see the Grand Valley beer community embracing the "dark side", if you will. Known events occurring next month in celebration of Stout Month include the release of a Raspberry Chocolate Cake Stout from Gemini Beer Company, and the release of 4 Milk Stouts from Monumental Beer Works. Grab a full pour of each of their Stout Month releases (Vanilla Chai, Cherry Cordial, Holy Mole Mexican Hot Chocolate, and Orange Cacow!) and you'll earn a limited edition Stout Month glass. More events and releases will be popping up, so make sure to keep your eyes and ears open!

Personally, I've spent the last several years using Stout Month as a creative way to raise money for various water related charities. The brain-child of my good friends over at RadCraft, #DailyStout is our commitment to drink a different stout every day for the entire 28 days of Stout Month, all while raising awareness for our non-profit partners. Last year's stout-drinking adventures were in support of 2 % For Rivers, however we are currently looking for a new partner this year. Stay tuned and follow the hashtag #DailyStout for more news and to view or daily choices. As you can see below, my preparations are already underway:

Finally, we'll be having some fun games to play on our Beers of Grand Junction tours during the month of February, in honor of Stout Month. If you would like to get a good sampling of the stouts (and other beer styles) around town, book your tour today! Happy Stout Month everyone!

Cheers,

Jason
